Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

Director of Quality Assurance will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of quality focused programs over three facilities in the food processing and packaging manufacturing industry.

• Develop company guidelines for quality programs and standards that meet or exceed customer and regulatory requirements including, but not limited to HACCP, GMP, Sanitation, and Food Safety.

•Monitor and improve quality systems to ensure the highest quality product is produced for customers.

•Develop plant level Quality Managers to ensure that they are performing to expected standards in support of the production process.

•Maintain awareness of industry advances and technologies to assure that customers have the benefit of the latest the industry must offer with regards to Food Safety and product quality.

•Develop vendor specifications and standards to provide our customers with the safest ingredients and supplies possible.

•Audit all facilities for quality and food safety standards and to ensure that all documentation, programs, and policies are being maintained and improved upon on an on-going basis.

•Monitor all facilities and ensure all standards and processing parameters are maintained to reduce exposure as much as possible.

•Work with Sales & Marketing, R&D, Production, and directly with customers to define and improve product specifications.

•Responsible for ensuring compliance with all product labels in accordance with USDA and FDA requirements.

•Directly responsible for food labels and a thorough knowledge of product and ingredient labeling.

• Direct communication with Regulatory Institutions/staff and technical services to submit for label approvals and obtain documentation required for government and commercial accounts.

•Have a working understanding of food ingredients and their functions; required labeling tolerances.

•Responsible for maintaining records and files for all production labels, and conducting ingredient and product auditing, for compliance with regards to labeling/regulations, to include allergen and special claims (Organic, Halal/Kosher, GMO, Gluten Free, etc.).


•Bachelors Degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology or closely related degree required.

•7 + years of progressive and current work experience in a Quality function with at least 2 years of multiple site management.

•3+ years experience in a food manufacturing environment.

•Should have experience with Quality Management Systems.

•Certified HACCP manager. Willingness to earn ASQ certification.

•Demonstrated experience in root cause analysis and CAPA.

•Strong knowledge of FSMA Preventive Controls requirement and development of Food Safety Plans with experience driving corrective actions of food safety issues.

•Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies a major plus.

•BRC or SQF experience is required.

•High level of technical competence, problem solving, and organization as well as strong verbal and written skills.

•Ability to act strategically and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
