Maintenance & Engineering Manager

FPC Bangor is working with a leading producer of packaging paper that has a Maintenance & Engineering Manager position open. The Maintenance & Engineering Manager provides overall management and direction for the Maintenance and Engineering departments. The qualified candidate will ensure that the engineering & maintenance areas continuously improve operating efficiency and product quality as well as ensure the efficient and economical installation of mill equipment, machinery and facilities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Promote and assure a safe work environment

Understand and drive both the Manufacturing Work System and Reliability Elements

  • Develop individual and departmental goals and objectives to establish performance standards for all departmental team members; coordinate team efforts and direct engineers on project work as needed
  • Develop, manage and execute the yearly capital plan and budget as dictated in mill’s goals
  • Assist with facility’s long term strategy and capital development
  • Maintain a close working relationship with union leadership and managers to optimize equipment and the facility
  • Approve expenditure requests up to specified limits
  • Maintain harmonious relations with team members by administering contract provisions and company policies to avoid breach of contract, to ensure conformance to work rules and regulations administering disciplinary measures when needed.
  • Ensure the safety and health of all team members in area of responsibility as related to work activities.
  • Lead area maintenance direct reports to increase effectiveness of crews
  • Develop and enforce expectations
  • Promote reliability and R-Gap closure, RCFA process and serve as a technical resource
  • Identify and develop training to promote development of team members
  • Ensure effective use of maintenance resources

Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education, technical training and experience
  • Minimum of seven to ten years of maintenance related experience in the Pulp and Paper industry or similar heavy manufacturing environment

Required skills:

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to handle multiple time sensitive projects and issues and must work well under pressure
  • Social, leadership, and communication skills to engage key customers and stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical, team leadership skills, planning and priority setting, and timely decision making
