Quality Control Supervisor

A global sourcing and inventory management company for precision components & specialty products is seeking a Quality Control Supervisor. We source and supply our customers with quality products at competitive prices. We can supply; precision machined components, stampings, bearings, castings & forgings, cold headed & powdered metal parts, electrical components, rubber & plastics, seals, gaskets, springs, sheet metal fabrication and fasteners.

The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the QC Inspection Department and support of the QC Mechanical Inspectors. Coordinates department activity to ensure product is properly checked to meet customer requirements while maintaining compliance with company procedures. Assures adherence to related department ISO standards and provides assistance/support to department leadership, Suppliers and other company departments as necessary, requested and required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise, support, train, teach, mentor and develop QC Inspection Team providing assistance when necessary and as required.
  • Assure inspectors have the necessary tools, equipment and training to do their jobs efficiently and effectively.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of measuring equipment, quality records, inspection records and calibration of all metrology.
  • Maintain Inspectors training documentation and assure inspectors are current in their ISO and department training requirements.
  • Supports the inspection process, including when necessary, required or as requested, as an additional Inspector.
  • Assure the department is structured for maximum effectiveness and efficiency and that all procedures are followed.
  • Assures the inspection documentation describes current work procedures and best practices. Makes necessary documentation revisions and best practice updates to comply with current practices. Interfaces with other departments to assure procedural harmony between departments.
  • Trains inspection staff on the effective use of the CMM, Vision System, Laser Micrometer, Hardness Tester and all other inspection metrology used to effectively inspect, (i.e.: pass conforming components and fail nonconforming components).
  • Program department metrology; CMM, Vision System, etc. and train Inspectors to become proficient in writing inspection programs related to computer aided equipment.
  • Coordinates DMR activity to assure; proper handling of parts and documentation including timely resolution of related product/problems.
  • Coordinates and assures FAIR’s are handled appropriately; inspected, sent for lab verification and dispositioned in a timely manner.
  • Assures PPAP submissions are approved and signed to be complete, accurate and in compliance with Customer requirements
  • Coordinates and assures production lots are handled efficiently; monitor to assure that hot parts and oldest date receipts are staged, then inspected in a timely manner.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • 3 years minimum experience in a QC department (manufacturing facility a plus) with expertise in mechanical inspection techniques
  • Knowledge of machine shop practices, processes, tools and fixture development and inspection metrology, including CMM use and programming
  • Excellent communication skills (oral & written) with ability to work with all levels of employees, customers and suppliers
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis in Excel, (ACCESS a plus)
  • Ability to read product specifications and engineering drawings with a detailed understanding of GD&T including experience supporting PPAP submissions
  • Strong supervisory, mentoring, coaching and leadership skills
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic environment simultaneously supporting several projects and activities
  • Knowledge of ISO quality systems and practices and Quality problem solving tools
  • CMM use as an expert, (CMM programming ability is a big plus for this position and provides the advantage for the interested and driven candidate).
